QST QST QST!
The purpose of this Special Event Amateur Radio Station is to celebrate the fiftieth
anniversary of the arrival of the first Portuguese immigrants to the city of Edmonton,
Alberta. At the same time I also want to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of my
father's arrival in Canada. My father left from Sao Miguel on June 10, 1957.
I will be issuing
certificates to those amateur operators who contact the special event station during
its operation June 5, 2007 to June 10, 2007. I will try to maintain operations from
15:00 hours UTC to 06:00 hours UTC on these dates. I intend to operate as much as
possible on 20 meters on the frequency of 14.200 MHz plus or minus 5 kHz. The station
will be operating under the call sign of VC6CTCU. My reason for choosing the call sign
are: VC6 identifies the station as being in Alberta Canada, CT is the prefix for
amateur call signs form Portugal and CU is the prefix for amateur call signs from the
Azores Islands.
Short wave listeners
are welcome and if requested will also be issued a certificate as a "listener". All
those requesting certificates are asked to send an IRC to help defray the costs. The
QSL Manager for this event is VE6JDD and you will find the necessary information on
QRZ.com. The special event call sign is also registered on
QRZ.COM.
